Family + Winter in the Country = Fun Family Day Weekend

I never thought I would say this, especially after months of cold and snow, but I love winter. It wasn’t always the case, and I still curse at the brutal Toronto wind whenever my bus runs late. Yet the moment I get into the country, cold and snow become something to enjoy rather than avoid.

We spent the Family Day weekend in Muskoka. We stayed at the Muskoka Shores Cottages, which was an upgrade from our usual accommodations (it had real beds, indoor plumbing and full kitchen). The resort overlooked a beautiful lake dotted with tiny ice fishing huts. We spent Saturday morning exploring ice fishing and meeting some very friendly fishermen. Then we drove over to the Arrowhead Provincial Park, a winter fun central, and hiked to the Stubbs Falls. On Sunday, we went back to Arrowhead, took an exciting ride down the tubing hill, spent half a day skiing through the white silent woods, and finished the day at the skating trail lit by torches. Definitely one of our best Family Day trips!
